Shirley Blevins teaches workshops in how to use batik dyes on watercolor paper to create beautiful abstracts! These are pictures of her workshop in Sugar Land.
In Shirley's workshops, you start by drawing a design on the watercolor paper. The lines of this design will be covered by hot wax.
After you have the design, then you lay the watercolor paper in a tub and sprinkle the batik dyes on it. Then you squirt the dyes and move them around to color your masterpiece.
This is Shirley showing how to outline your design using a hot wax gun.

After you blend your colors, you use watercolors or goache to tie all the pieces into a coherent design. Shirley is demonstrating this step in the photo above.
LaVon Westfall tried squirting on her piece to blend the colors. Shirley supervises and helps show how to do this.
